Nautical Dice Games - Dice games with a nautical or pirate theme!
Shut the Box - Shut-the-Box is a traditional game of counting, addition, and probability. Throw dice, use them singly or add them together together. Mark the numbers thrown by flipping flappers or sliding bars over the numbers. Then that player rolls again and repeats the covering of numbers. Play stops when the dice can no longer be used. When more than one player competes in the game, the lowest score wins the game. Players can compete to determine who buys the coffee or other drinks! Or in a household, low score doesn't have to do a specified chore!
HISTORICAL NOTE: Sailors & Trappers The game has been popular for centuries among sailors and fishermen. It's not known for sure where the game originated, but as early as the 12th century some references point to Normandy or the Channel Islands. Lore tells fables of ancient Norman sailors playing the game in the moonlight as their ship bobbed and swayed across the sea. Sources also mention fur trappers from the Hudson's Bay Company. In the 18th century, Norman fishermen enjoyed this game after a long day at sea.

Farkel - Farkel is a fast, competitive game in which players roll 6 dice and compete for the highest score over 10,000. 2 or more players, although some people play it solitaire.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Soem people claim Farkle was first played in Iceland by Sir Albert Farkle in the 14th century. Revolutionary War historians and American history reinactors argue that the game actually came over on French sailing ships in the 1600’s. This historic game was spelled “FARKLE” and used five dice. The first printed reference to Farkle is found in a festival directory printed during the time of Shakespeare. The US Patent and Trademark office lists half a dozen dice games trademarked under the name Farkle since 1982. In 1997 Legendary Games slightly modified the game, changed the spelling to Farkel, and gained a trademark. They claimed another trademark for “Farkel” in 2007. And to add to this history, a fellow claims he and two friends invented the game in the 1960s using 5 dice (then eventually 6 dice). Then around 1972, the three of them traveled much of the US teaching people how to play the game.

Morgan's Revenge (Spinning Top or Driedle Game) - Spin the 6-sided top to see if you will be gaining or losing coins from your personal stash! A "sharing of the wealth" or a "redistribution of the wealth" game as it were, players spin a small driedle (top), then put or take replica pirate coins to and from a common pot according to how the top lands. This traditional game of chance has long been considered the game of bandits and buccaneers. Although young and old alike will enjoy playing together, it has become quite popular as a drinking game. 2 or more players.
HISTORICAL NOTE: 17th C Pirate Morgan The real Sir Henry Morgan was a daring and successful swashbuckling buccaneer who roamed the Carribean during the seventeenth century. As a young boy, he was sent from England to the island of Barbados as an indentured servant. Morgan's freedom came in when Oliver Cromwell in England needed men to capture parts of the West Indies from the Spanish. Many young men deserted their owners to join this invasion force. He easily turned to piracy and sought revenge against those foolish enough to cross his path. Not many pirates earned the title "Sir" since they were considered to be criminals and were hanged for their actions. But Henry Morgan was knighted by the King of England after his daring and spectacular raid on one of the richest cities - Panama City. Sir Henry Morgan was then sent back to Jamaica as lieutenant-governor. He never sailed again but enjoyed life as a rich, rowdy drunk on his Jamaican estates before his death in 1688.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Dreidle The six-sided top can be traced back to the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt. It has been found in the remains of Roman army camps and among many nautical ruins
HISTORICAL NOTE: Replica Coins The replica coins are copies of authentic coins from the treasure ship Atocha.

Perudo or Liar's Dice - Guessing, bluffing, and luck are essential componets to this game. Along with dice, of course! The object of the game is to be the last person with dice. Everyone rolls their own dice, hiding them from other players with their cup. Taking turns, each player calls out how many dice of a given number appear under everyone's cups combined. Each bid must be higher than the last. If you don't think you can go any higher, challenge the last bidder. But be careful - whoever is wrong loses a die. Includes 30 dice, 6 colored dice cups, a cloth travel pouch with draw-string, game tin and instructions.
HISTORICAL NOTE: 16th C Incas Perudo was a game played by the Incas of South America when Pizarro conquered them in the 16th century. Historians believe the Incas may have played the game for hundreds of years before the arrival of the Spanish. The only historical manuscripts found on the subject are those of the European conquerors, where the game of Perudo is described as a fascinating gambling dice pastime. It is also known as a game in pirate history. Pirates would roll their dice in a cup and guess how many of a number would be face up on all the dice in play, not just their own (i.e. five twos, six threes, etc.).
